This story was not at all what I expected. I expected some secret baby romance with a holiday twist. I would never have thought of this idea for a storyline, and I think that truly says a lot about the creativity this author brings to what can often be a trope heavy genre.
The story is about Tessa a graphic designer, and her friend/boss Nick. They both work at a start-up game developing company. This is the only aspect of the story that was a little meh for me. I think both of their jobs are normal, but the where they work is a bit hard to relate to for most people.
Nick is a true English gentleman, no really, he’s British. I had a hard time imagining his accent, and while his speech included things like “mate” I didn’t get the British vibe from him. That’s most likely a “me” issue versus a writing issue though. Nick being the gentleman that he is has set off to woo the woman who has captured his heart by Secret Santa gifting her items mentioned in the Christmas Classic song Santa Baby.
Tessa has been in love with Nick for a long time, and like Nick, she has been too afraid to ruin their friendship by moving forward. Even when her Ex Damien, Nick’s closest friend, tries pitefully to win her affections she is not swayed.
I really enjoyed this story, and was sad that it was only a novella. I feel like the minor conflict with Damien would have made an interesting storyline for a full length novel. That said sometimes you just want some feels, and this novella will do that for you. Light and fluffy, with minimal drama, this is definitely one to add to your Christmas romance reading list.
Tessa Stoneman hasn’t been able to get long-time friend and business partner Nicholas Boone out of her head since they shared a single kiss in college. Even when she dated Nicholas’s best friend. Now that she’s giving up her position at GameNerdz to strike out on her own—and now that she’s single—maybe it’s the right time to see if there’s still something between them.
Nicholas knows once Tessa leaves the company she helped found, they might drift apart. Before she starts her own company in the new year, he wants to woo the woman he fell in love with during college. So he poses as her Secret Santa, gifts her with items from the song “Santa Baby,” and plans a big reveal at the company holiday party. But when his best friend wants to rekindle his romance with Tessa, will Nicholas lose his last chance?
